Immune tolerance embodies several regulatory mechanisms in which autoreactive immune cells are effectively restricted from further activation, limiting the potential for self-injury. Failure of these mechanisms represents a defining molecular step in the development of pathologic neurologic autoimmunity. This talk explores paradigms of immune tolerance evasion across a variety of autoreactive neurologic disorders including neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders, autoimmune encephalitis, and multiple sclerosis to inform a rational approach to educate and treat patients afflicted with autoinflammatory neurologic disease.
