Publishing in reputable journals, such as the RCPA’s Pathology, advances scientific knowledge, improves clinical care, showcases progress across pathology disciplines, and provides professional recognition. Global publishing is evolving rapidly due to technological advances, faster turnaround times, and broader access. This plenary is an update on the current landscape and recent changes, brought you by the Editors of Pathology, our publisher Elsevier, and the journal Editorial Office. We will provide guidance on selecting the right journal for submission, preparing and submitting articles, and the editorial and production process. The responsibilities of reviewers, authors and editorial expectations will also be discussed. The session will explore tools available to both authors and reviewers, the increasing availability of open access, and emerging technologies for detecting AI-generated content, paper mills, and duplicate submissions. Finally, we will offer strategies for sharing your published work to maximise reader engagement and increase overall impact.
