To enter one of the Trainee e-poster prizes, you need to first submit an original abstract for pre-selection. Abstracts should be submitted by 7 November 2024.

  • E-posters should be one page long and must be submitted as a PDF file only.
  • All e-posters must be in portrait orientation only. Files will be displayed full screen on the onsite kiosk which is a portrait-orientated computer screen.
  • Images/photos, graphs and tables can be included in the poster.

Shortlisted applicants who are chosen to present onsite will be notified by Friday 22 November 2024.
Shortlisted applicants will need to upload their e-poster by Wednesday 18 December 2024.

Board of Education and Assessment (BEA) prize
  • Trainees are given the opportunity to summarise their e-posters in three minutes followed by three minutes for questions on Saturday 22 February 2025 at 8.30am.
  • Four Trainees will be selected to enter this prize and their e-posters will be displayed at Pathology Update 2025.
  • The winner will be awarded AU$1000. The runner-up will receive AU$500.
  • Please review the abstract submission form instructions thoroughly prior to proceeded to submit your abstract.


RCPAQAP E-Poster prize
  • Trainees are given the opportunity to summarise their e-posters in three minutes followed by three minutes for questions on Saturday 22 February 2025 at 8.30am.
  • The winner will be awarded AU$1000.
  • Please review the abstract submission form instructions thoroughly prior to proceeded to submit your abstract.


RCPA Perinatal Pathology Prize
  • This award is only open to Trainees based in Australia.
  • E-posters will be on display onsite at Pathology Update but applicants will not be required to present or stand by their posters during the event.
  • The winner will be awarded AU$1000. The runner-up will receive AU$500.
  • Please review the abstract submission form instructions thoroughly prior to proceeded to submit your abstract.
The RCPA Perinatal Pathology Prize has been made possible thanks to the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care as part of the RCPA’s Stillbirth Investigations – Pathologists Project to promote perinatal pathology as a career. 


  • Abstracts of original research
  • Duplicate abstracts cannot be accepted. Trainees entering multiple prize categories are not permitted to submit the same abstract under different prize categories. A different abstract is required for each prize (eg, DS Nelson, RCPAQAP, BEA, Perinatal Pathology or Roche prizes). Abstracts accepted as Trainee case presentations as part of the Pathology Update Scientific Program cannot also be presented in the prize categories.
  • Full registration to attend Pathology Update 2025 is required as a condition of submission. Abstracts without registration of the submitting author (or co-author if notified) will be withdrawn.
  • Trainees selected to present onsite will receive complimentary registration for the day they are presenting and reduced rate registration to attend the remainder of Pathology Update (no travel and accommodation entitlements will be provided).
  • Trainees will present onsite at Pathology Update. Please note that the judging for the prizes will take place at the presentations. Trainees who are not present will not be considered.
  • If an abstract has been accepted, it is the responsibility of the applicant to keep copies of the acceptance for their PPD records.
  • Accepted abstracts will be published in the Pathology Update abstract supplement in the RCPA Journal Pathology.
  • E-posters will be on display onsite at Pathology Update using e-poster kiosks, and will also available via the Pathology Update conference app. Delegates are not required to present or stand by their posters during the event.
  • E-poster presentations do not require a formal PowerPoint presentation. You will only be expected to talk about your poster.
